A word about South Charlotte. Everybody defines South Charlotte as something different. I've heard a guy say his South Charlotte runs from Waxhaw to Ballantyne. I've heard people call Myers Park South Charlotte. For me, it's Sharon View Road. That's the South Charlotte I know. Sharon View Road predates Fairview Rd. Actually, when they built these neighborhoods off Sharon view Fairview didn't exist exist yet. It was just Sharon Road and Providence Road - Sharon View Road connected the two. Most the homes around Sharon View, were built in the 60s and early 70s. We call these neighborhoods Beverly Woods, Mountainbrook, Fairmeadows, Governer's Square, and Sharon Woods. All these houses are 60 years old. So the trees are 60 years old or more. When they built homes back then, the natural trees they left, and those trees now are over 100 years old. All the ones they planted are 50-60 years old. And they often planted this one species, Silver Maple - which only lives about 50-60 years. They are dying left and right and need to be taken out. Here's a picture of one that we took out recently. So these trees need replaced, and our recommendation for replacement is Autumn Blaze Red Maple (2nd pic here - just starting to turn red for fall). It's gonna live a lot longer. Still be fast growing than the original silver maples, and the leaves look a lot prettier.
